Quick exterior touch ups to improve the street appeal of your home

May 31, 2021

Sprucing up the exterior of your home, whether it's so you can sell, or just improve the street appeal, can sometimes seem like an overwhelming job. Each little job you identify starts to add up and eventually become so momentous, you kind of give up before you even start! So we thought we would give you a hand to focus your efforts and suggest three quick, easy and relatively cheap fix-ups that can make a world of difference to your home.

The Garden

One of the easiest places to start with improving the exterior of your home, is to address your garden. Simply start by weeding and tidying up, and maybe consider a few simple ‘bordering’ projects that can give your yard definition, while making it also look neat and tidy. First, locate an area of your yard where you would like to create a feature garden bed, and then dig it a little in order to turn the soil for planting. When it comes to the edging, there are a few different types you can use that are easy to handle and cost effective. Look for edging that you can simply “pound-in”. This variety takes only a few minutes to install and makes the world of difference to your yard. Perfect for creating garden bed islands in the front yard or whole border-style garden beds tracing your front or back fence line.

The Driveway

Addressing your driveway may seem like a big expense, in reality it doesn't have to be. The most amount of work will come from having to clear the area you want for the driveway. When the area has been cleared and the edging bolstered, you will need to lay the gravel (most require a ‘core’ underlay in order to keep the gravel stable).

The House Exterior

For most people, the go-to spruce-up method for the exterior of the home is a fresh coat of paint, which is fine if you are only looking to change your home’s colour. But for those who want to be a bit more adventurous and give the exterior of their home a complete facelift, there is the Insulclad Rendered Wall System. Many rendering options revolve around it being applied to brick, which requires preparation such as cleaning, and most rendering options cannot be used outside of that scope. The Insulclad Rendered Wall System enables home owners to be able to change the exterior of their home, regardless of the pre-existing material surrounding the outside.

The Insulclad Rendered Wall System is installed on top of the existing exterior (brick or cladding), the render is then prepared and applied to the wall system, with the polymer render finish (available in three different types) rounding out the process. All you need to do then is apply one or two coats of acrylic paint for looks and protection.

We trust that we have been able to provide you with a couple of starting points for sprucing up your home.
